DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University softball junior third baseman
Dalika Wallace has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for March 2019 in recognition of her outstanding performance on the diamond and in the classroom.
Wallace batted a staggering .564 in March. She collected at a hit or a walk in all 19 games for a .705 on-base percentage and her 22 hits – including four doubles, one triple and five home runs – resulted in a 1.103 slugging percentage as the Lady Eagles posted a winning record for the month.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) named Wallace the league softball Player of the Week twice for the weeks of March 11-17 and March 25-31. She capped the month with 11 RBI in a three-game series sweep of South Carolina State University.
The resident of Newport News, Virginia, drove in 28 total runs in March for an average of 1.5 RBI per game.
Wallace, who was named the NCCU Female Student-Athlete of the Year at The Eddies, leads the MEAC with 38 RBI and eight home runs. She also ranks amongst the league leaders in batting average (.352), doubles (11), slugging percentage (.694), walks per game (0.59) and toughest to strikeout (15.4).
The business management major is a MEAC All-Academic Team honoree and 2018 NCCU Softball Players' Choice Award winner. Wallace, who is minoring in finance, will be completing an internship under NCCU Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Ms. Akua J. Matherson this summer as she prepares to secure a full-time job after she graduates next year.
