INDIANAPOLIS – Three North Carolina Central University student-athletes have qualified for the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships, hosted by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville on May 23-25.
NCCU senior
Bethany White (Gaithersburg, Md.) qualified in both the women's 100-meter dash and the 200m dash, sophomore
Gordon Lewis (Fredericksburg, Va.) qualified in the men's 400m dash, and sophomore
Bhrandi Crenshaw (Alexandria, Va.) qualified in the women's triple jump. All three Eagles also represented NCCU at the 2018 outdoor regional championships.
White ran a career-best time of 11.28 seconds in the 100m and a season-best time of 23.40 seconds in the 200m at the MEAC Championships. Her times rank 10th and 28th, respectively, in the East region. White begins her second NCAA experience with the women's 100m on Thursday (May 23) at 6:30 p.m., with the 100m quarterfinal on Friday at 6:00 p.m. The first round of the women's 200m will be held on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with the 200m quarterfinal on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.
Lewis posted a career-best time of 46.28 in the 400m finals at the MEAC Championships to qualify for the East regional meet for the second time. Lewis runs in the first round of the men's 400m dash on Thursday (May 23) at 7:45 p.m., with the quarterfinal on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
Crenshaw makes a return trip to the East regional after posting the MEAC's longest triple jump of the season with a career-best leap of 12.72 meters at the Florida Relays in March. The Alexandria, Virginia, native earned gold medals as this year's triple jump conference champion in both the indoor and outdoor MEAC championships. Crenshaw has to wait until the final day of the East Preliminary meet on Saturday (May 25) at 3:00 p.m. to compete in the women's triple jump.
The qualifiers out of the East and West regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
