PHILADELPHIA – Senior Bethany White finished second in the women's 100-meter dash, sophomore Bhrandi Crenshaw placed third in the women's triple jump, and the men's 4x100m relay team qualified for the Championship of America Invitational for the second straight year to highlight several standout performances by North Carolina Central University during the 125th running of the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Thursday-Saturday.
 
White achieved the fastest time in the women's 100m dash preliminaries at 11.52 seconds. In the championship finals, she posted a time of 11.71 as the event runner-up behind Jaliyah Elliott of Youngstown State (11.60), while beating sprinters from Houston, Clemson, Rutgers, Penn State and Villanova.
 
White also joined teammates Tyresha Alexander, Erin Johnson and Olivia Andrews to produce NCCU's fastest women's 4x100m relay time of the season at 46.28, finishing 14th in the preliminaries.
 
In the triple jump championship, Crenshaw tallied a distance of 12.24 meters (40' 2.0") to place third. NCCU junior Keila Robertson won the women's triple jump college finals with a career-best mark of 12.05m, while sophomore Taelor Ferguson placed 11th at 11.54m.
 
Robertson also accomplished a career-best distance in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.51m to place 12th, while Crenshaw finished in 21st place at 5.31m.
 
In the preliminaries of the men's 4x100m relay, the NCCU foursome of Isaac Roberts, Joshua Polk, Blake Hartsfield and Gordon Lewis ranked eighth with a time of 40.88 to qualify for the Championship of America Invitational. In that championship race, NCCU finished seventh in 41.11.
 
The NCCU men's 4x200m relay team placed 13th in the Championship of America Invitational with a season-best time of 1:26.91.
 
In the men's high jump, sophomore Marvin Jones (2.04m) placed seventh in the championship event, while junior Omega Smalls (2.04m) finished fifth in the college finals.
 
Up next, NCCU competes at the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 2-4 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
