NCCU Ends Regular Season with Road Loss

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Junior Sofia Miller picked up the lone North Carolina Central University women's tennis point in a 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) road loss at South Carolina State University on Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs (13-4 Overall, 5-0) completed an undefeated league season to earn the top seed from the Southern Division. The Lady Eagles (7-13, 3-2) will be the third seed, returning to postseason play for the first time in three years.

Miller needed three sets before picking up her sixth win of the season. Miller topped freshman Divya Murali by a final score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

SC State used 6-2 and 6-1 wins in doubles to claim the first team point.

Sophomore Maru Berghaus and freshman Ivana Dragovic were in a 4-4 tie in their uncompleted doubles match for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Bulldogs used straight-set wins at No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles to complete the victory.

In the only other three-set match of the day, junior Andjela Mihajlovic outlasted redshirt sophomore Frida Cnossen in a third-set superset tiebreaker in the top singles match by a margin of 6-7, 6-2, 10-7.

NC Central will next compete in the 2019 MEAC Women's Tennis Championships in Norfolk, Virginia, scheduled for April 25-27. The league office will announce the full tournament field and schedule within the week.
