Wallace and Hurley Earn MEAC Softball Weekly Awards Again

NORFOLK, Va. — The North Carolina Central University junior Dalika Wallace was named the MEAC Softball Player of the Week and sophomore teammate Kiara Hurley was selected MEAC Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Monday.

The stellar week by both Wallace and Hurley helped the Lady Eagles sweep at three-game MEAC Southern Division series against South Carolina State University over the weekend.

The weekly awards are the second of the season for both maroon and gray players.

Wallace racked up 11 RBI and four runs scored in the three games. She reached base in 10 of her 11 plate appearances for a staggering .909 on-base percentage. Wallace went 5-for-6 with a triple, a home run, four walks, one hit-by-pitch and a stolen base for an .833 batting average and 1.667 slugging percentage.

The third baseman from Newport News, Virginia, started the series with six RBI, including a grand slam, in Friday's 16-1 victory. Wallace tacked on five more RBI in Saturday's doubleheader sweep, including her first triple.

Wallace, who has reached base safely in 18 straight games, leads NCCU on the season with a .417 average, .583 on-base percentage, .783 slugging percentage, 29 RBI, 20 runs, 18 walks, five doubles and five home runs.

Hurley tossed a pair of complete-game victories to go 2-0 on the week. She boasted a 0.58 ERA with 14 strikeouts, allowing just one run over 12 innings of work.

The left-handed hurler from Maumee, Ohio, fanned a season-high eight batters in her two-hit, complete game on Friday. Hurley retired the first 12 batters she faced in that contest to take a potential perfect game into the fifth inning. She returned to the pitcher's circle in Saturday's first game, a much-tighter 3-0 win, and registered her second shutout of the season.

Hurley leads the Lady Eagles with 10 wins, 3.76 ERA, 14 complete games, two shutouts and 80 strikeouts over 113 innings pitched.

NC Central (12-18 Overall, 3-3 MEAC) next visits Appalachian State University in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
