NORFOLK, Va. — Sophomore
Kiara Hurley picked up three consecutive wins for North Carolina Central University over the weekend on the way to being selected Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, March 5.
Hurley pitched in four of NCCU's six games on the week and boasted a 1.24 earned run average (ERA) over 22.2 innings of work. She struck out 11 batters and limited her opposition to a .217 batting average.
The left-handed hurler went 3-0 in the Pirate Invitational over the weekend, showcasing a 0.89 ERA over 15.2 innings. Hurley started the event with a one-hit shutout in a 9-0 win against Saint Peter's University. That same day, Hurley picked up another win with 3 2/3 innings of effective relief in a 6-5 triumph over host Hampton University. She then went seven complete innings the following day, allowing just one earned run in a 7-2 victory over Delaware State University.
Hurley leads the Lady Eagles with a 5-5 record and a 3.60 ERA and 31 strikeouts. The resident of Maumee, Ohio, ranks first in the MEAC with her five wins.
NCCU next hosts Norfolk State University in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
