DURHAM, N.C. — Host Duke University won all seven matches contested to defeat local foe North Carolina Central University 7-0 in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
The Eagles only had five active players, forfeiting No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles to the Blue Devils.
Duke improved to 4-5 overall after winning all five singles matches in straight sets.
The Blue Devils started the contest with a pair of 6-2 wins in doubles play.
NCCU senior
Gabriel Cucalon – a two-time All-MEAC honoree – was given a difficult early season test as he was positioned against No. 26 nationally-ranked junior Nick Stachowiak. In the marquee match, Stachowiak prevailed 6-0, 6-3.
Freshman No. 3
Christos Dagklis had the closest match for the Eagles in regards to games won, falling 6-2, 6-4 to senior Vincent Lin.
NC Central (0-2) next plays at UNC Asheville next Saturday at 3 p.m.
