ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Asheville men's tennis team remained undefeated on the season with a 7-0 non-conference win over visiting North Carolina Central University on Saturday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
The Bulldogs won all five singles matches in straight sets to improve to 8-0 on the season. The Eagles dipped to 0-3.
The top ranked doubles team in the country of UNCA senior Henry Patten and sophomore Oli Nolan used a 6-0 win to secure the initial point for the hosts.
NCCU only had five active players due to injury and had to forfeit the last singles and doubles matches.
Patten knocked off senior
Gabriel Cucalon by matching 6-2 set scores in the top singles match. Patten is the two-time Big South Conference Player of the Year and remained undefeated in dual matches this season at 6-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles with Nolan.
Freshman No. 4 Leo Bierbaum matched Patten with a 6-2, 6-2 win over freshman
Thanos Spyropoulos. Sophomore No. 5 Finlay Ray McFayden also lost just four sets in his 6-4, 6-0 triumph over junior
Pablo Juez Torres. Nolan had the victors most convincing win on court two, knocking off freshman
Amit Baran by 6-1, 6-2 margin. Freshman No. 3 Sirawit Daosaengsawang added a 6-3, 6-3 win over freshman
Christos Dagklis.
NC Central will next play at North Carolina State University on Sunday at 5 p.m.
