Camels Blank NCCU in Women’s Tennis Action

DURHAM, N.C. — Campbell University's No. 1 positioned player was able to outlast North Carolina Central University sophomore Frida Crossen in a superset tiebreaker to complete a 7-0 non-conference women's tennis team victory for the Camels on a windy Wednesday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.

Cnossen won the first set over junior Lou Regen, 7-6, after winning the tiebreaker 7-5. However, Regen was able to level the score with a 6-1 win in the second set. With the Camels having already secured the team victory, the two top flight players settled the match in a superset that Regen was able to claim by a 10-6 margin.

Campbell improved to 3-4 and NCCU slipped to 1-5.

A 6-2 win on court three followed by a 6-4 win on court two secured the doubles point for the Camels.

The Lady Eagles were leading the No. 1 doubles match 5-4 when play was stopped. Cnossen was partnering with freshman Hannah Gaines for the maroon and gray in that unfinished match.

Campbell won the bottom five singles matches in straight sets. Junior No. 4 Sofia Miller and sophomore No. 5 Polina Sakharova both lost tough first sets for NCCU before falling by matching 7-5, 6-1 scores.

NC Central next hosts Gardner-Webb University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
