WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University opened the indoor track & field season with 19 top-10 efforts, 10 top-5 performances, and three event victories at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic on Saturday.
NCCU junior
Bhrandi Crenshaw, the defending MEAC indoor and outdoor triple jump champion, started the 2019 indoor campaign by winning the women's triple jump with a distance of 12.31 meters. The Lady Eagles dominated the event with four of the top-10 finishers, as
Taelor Ferguson placed fifth (11.78m),
Sharnea Brown sixth (11.45m), and
Na'Zyia Evans ninth (11.39m).
NCCU transfer
Corneisha Mitchell set a standard in her first meet as a Lady Eagle by winning two events, the women's shot put (13.76m) and the weight throw (18.45m).
A runner-up performance was achieved by NCCU junior
Marvin Jones in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.05m.
Capping the top-3 individual finishers for NCCU is freshman
Del'Nique Penn, who placed third in the women's 60-meter dash in 7.67 seconds.
The NCCU men's and women's indoor track & field teams return to action after the holiday break on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the JDL January College Kick-Off in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
