Big Runs Push Georgia past Eagles

ATHENS, Ga. – North Carolina Central University faced a tough Georgia squad, and the Bulldogs picked up a 95-59 win on Wednesday, Dec. 7 inside Stegeman Coliseum.

NCCU (2-6) and UGA (6-2) traded the lead four times in the early stages of the first half, but a 13-0 run at the 14:10 mark from the Bulldogs provided breathing room for the hosts in the first period.  The Eagles shot an even 50 percent from the floor and from the perimeter in the first 20 minutes, but Georgia also made half of its three-pointers with a total of seven falling before the break.

Anthony Edwards (Atlanta, Ga.) put up 19 points in the first half and that helped lead to a 50-35 lead midway through.  C.J. Keyser (Baltimore, Md.) also exploded in the first half as he reached a season-high 11 points, and Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) contributed 10 points before the intermission as well.

UGA started the second half on a 13-2 run as it continued to make more than half of its shots from the floor, and that created enough separation to keep the Eagles at bay for the rest of the contest on the way to a 95-59 victory.

Keyser finished with a season-best 16 points, and Blount chipped in a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds.  Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) dished out a game-high tying six assists for the Eagles along with four points and two boards.

Edwards finished with a game-high 21 points, and Rayshaun Hammonds (Norcross, Ga.) followed him with 19 points and nine caroms.  Tyree Crump (Bainbridge, Ga.) collected 16 points with five rebounds, and Christian Brown (Hopkins, S.C.) was the fourth Bulldog in double-digits with 11 points and eight rebounds.

NCCU will finish up its four-game swing away from home on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Charleston Southern.  The Eagles will return to McDougald-McLendon Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 11 against Christendom at 7:00 p.m.
