DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University returned home to Christendom College after 20 days away, and set new records in a 109-28 win over the Crusaders on Wednesday, Dec. 11 inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU (3-8) posted the second-largest margin of victory in school history with an 81-point victory, the largest since an 85-point win for the Eagles against St. Augustine's on Feb. 18, 1944 after a 119-34 final tally. The Eagles also swiped 26 steals to surpass the program record of 23 that was set against CC (0-7) last season, and made 50 field goals, which is the most in the Division I era.
The Eagles as a team shot 62.5 percent from the floor, led by a career-high tying 31 points from
Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who added a game-best 12 rebounds to his second double-double of the year, and third of his career. Every Eagle who entered the game made at least one field goal, and five reached double-digits in scoring.
Kobby Ayetey (Apam, Ghana) posted a season-high 15 points, and
Mike Melvin (Fayetteville, N.C.) dished out a joint game-high six assists with 14 points and four steals.
Nicolas Fennell (Bowie, Md.) also served out six assists with nine points and seven rebounds, and
Deven Palmer (Hyde Park, Mass.) collected 12 points and eight caroms.
Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) was the fifth Eagle to score 10 or more with 10 points and four assists.
The Crusaders were led by Joe Dotson (Manassas, Va.) who knocked down four three-pointers to post 14 points with five rebounds.
NCCU heads back on the road for its next two games, starting at Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Dec. 14.
