NCCU’s Paulina Afriyie Named Preseason All-MEAC

2019-20 Preseason All-MEAC Women's Basketball Teams

NORFOLK, Va. — Senior Paulina Afriyie will enter her final season at North Carolina Central University with another award to her name after being selected to the Preseason All-MEAC Women's Basketball Second Team as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Wednesday.
 
Afriyie led the Lady Eagles with 13.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while also shooting a team-best 43.4-percent from the field.
 
The 2018-19 All-MEAC Third Team honoree ranked amongst the league leaders in all three of those statistical categories, including fourth in rebounds per game, seventh in field-goal percentage and tied for 11th in points per game.
 
Afriyie was the only Eagle to start in all 31 games and also ranked seventh in the conference and second on the team behind sophomore Kiyana Brown with 1.2 blocks per game.
 
The power forward from Bronx, New York, scored in double digits in 22 games last season and posted 10 double-doubles, including game-high totals of 25 points (Wilberforce) and 17 rebounds (Savannah State). Afriyie notched her 10th double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds helped NCCU to its first program win in the MEAC Tournament against Delaware State University.
 
Afriyie has secured three MEAC Defensive Player of the Week awards in her career so far and is the two-time reigning NCCU women's basketball team MVP along with 2018-19 NCCU Players Choice Award winner. She has also earned MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team distinction twice.
 
NC Central begins its season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 12 against Winthrop University.
