DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball program has announced its 2019-20 schedule, featuring 30 games and four home non-conference contests.

Of the 14 non-conference opponents, eight of them will be first-time opponents for the Eagles.

The Eagles will start the season with two of those first-timers, first on the road against Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 9, a team that has made four NCAA Tournament appearances since the 2013-14 season, the same number as NCCU.  After that, the Eagles will hit the hardwood at McDougald-McLendon Arena for the first time against USC Upstate on Monday, November 11.

That game represents the opening leg of the 2019 Global Sports Shootout, and the Eagles will hit the road to meet the rest of the opponents of the event, including a debut matchup with Louisville on Nov. 17.  Akron and Youngstown State are also included in the non-bracketed tournament, and will also host the Eagles.  NCCU last met Akron in 2007 and Youngstown State in 2010, with the Eagles falling in both meetings.

NCCU will come back home to host Bluefield State for the first time since 1954 on Friday, Nov. 21, before heading back on the road for four games.   NCCU will head to Southern Illinois, Wofford, Georgia and Charleston Southern, and will face off with each team for the first time in program history.

The Eagles will play their third home game of the non-conference season against Christendom on Wednesday, Dec. 11, before heading back on the road to Coastal Carolina and Louisiana Tech.  The Eagles will say farewell to 2019 on Monday, Dec. 30 against its final first-time opponent, Mid-Atlantic Christian, before diving into Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play in the new calendar year.

The Eagles will play the usual 16 MEAC games with eight home and road dates, beginning at home on Jan. 4 against Florida A&M.  NCCU will welcome nearly every MEAC school to the Bull City this season with the exception of Morgan State and Coppin State, as the Eagles will face them on the road only this campaign.  NCCU will face both of those teams only once on the road, while Norfolk State and Howard will see NCCU only in Durham, as the Spartans will visit McDougald-McLendon Arena on Monday, Feb. 3, and the Bison will take their turn on Monday, Feb. 24.

NCCU will duel North Carolina A&T twice as usual, with the first meeting in Greensboro on Saturday, Feb. 15, and the Aggies will trek east for the season finale on Thursday, March 5.

The Eagles will head to Norfolk for the MEAC Tournament from March 10-14 with a chance to make history with a fourth-consecutive tournament championship.
