NCCU Wins Six Events at JDL College Kick-off

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University captured 24 top-5 finishes, including six event victories, to begin the 2019 segment of the indoor track & field season at the JDL January College Kick-off on Sunday.
 
NCCU sophomores Kenydi McWilliams and Marvin Jones achieved personal records on their way to event wins. McWilliams triumphed in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.91 seconds, while Jones leaped 2.09 meters (6-10.25) to top the field in the men's high jump.
 
Senior Bethany White was the first to cross the finish line in the women's 60m dash (7.52), marking the eighth individual event victory during her standout college career.
 
Freshman Olivia Andrews, who won the 400m dash in her first indoor college meet in December, also ran to victory in Sunday's 400m dash (58.47).
 
Sophomore Gordon Lewis celebrated two victories on Sunday. He won the men's 400m dash (49.04) and ran the anchor leg of the men's 4x400m relay (3:25.32), joining Da'Mon Ingram, Joshua McLean and Isaiah Smith in the win.
 
NCCU runner-ups were senior Kiana Seabrook in the women's 400m dash (58.60), sophomore Taelor Ferguson in the women's triple jump (11.46m/37-7.25), sophomore Malik Miles in the men's 200m dash (22.36), freshman Anthony Williams in the men's 1,000m run (2:44.74), and junior Omega Smalls in the men's high jump (2.01m/6-7.0).
 
NCCU indoor track & field teams return to action on Jan. 25-26 at the Christopher Newport University Captains Invitational inside the Freeman Center in Newport News, Virginia.
