DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University baseball senior
Andrew Valichka has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2018 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Valichka had 20 base hits in 17 games for a .303 batting average. He totaled two doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI, nine runs and three stolen bases.
The Pedricktown, New Jersey, product capped April with five hits in a three-game series sweep of Savannah State University. Valichka drove in four runs in the trio of wins.
Other highlights of the month for Valichka included hitting a home run in a 7-2 win against Presbyterian College, driving in the game-winning run with an RBI-single in a 2-1 win against North Carolina A&T State University, scoring the game-winning run in the ninth inning in a 7-6 road win against Appalachian State University and tallying one of his six multi-hit games of the month in a 6-3 road win at UNC Asheville.
The third baseman was one of two Eagles to start all 52 games this season on his way to earning Second Team All-MEAC honors. He concluded his final season batting .276 with 38 RBI and 37 runs.
Valichka graduated Summa Cum Laude in May and was voted to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Baseball Team by CoSIDA. The behavioral and social science major plans to stay at NCCU for graduate school and serve as a student assistant with the baseball team.
