DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University softball sophomore
Ava Dolan has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for March 2018 in recognition of her outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Dolan batted .478 in March with 22 hits, including five doubles and two home runs. Her totals included a .717 slugging percentage, .528 on-base percentage, 18 RBI and seven runs.
The Las Vegas, Nevada, product hit safely in 14 of the 16 games over that span, including helping the Lady Eagles secure wins against Marist College, Gardner-Webb University, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Southern University and Savannah State University.
Against the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb, Dolan had three hits and four RBI with the game-tying RBI in the seventh to force extra innings before NCCU prevailed 7-5. She added six more multi-hit games after that outstanding performance.
Dolan averaged over one RBI per game. She carried that momentum into April and was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week after extending her hit streak to 13 games.
The recreation administration major posted a 3.571 grade point average (GPA) in the fall semester at NCCU. Dolan is concentrating in sports management and has a minor in coaching. She is a member of the NCCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Dolan currently leads the Lady Eagles with a .423 average in 36 starts with nine home runs and 37 RBI (both new NCCU Division I program records).
