DURHAM, N.C. — North Carolina Central University junior
Gabriel Cucalon won both his singles and doubles matches in a 5-2 home loss to fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Morgan State University Friday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The Bears won their fourth straight match while the Eagles were unable to win a third consecutive contest.
Morgan State moved over .500 at 5-4 and NCCU dipped to 2-10.
Cucalon notched his singles win over the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week in freshman Shrey Gupta. Cucalon won 6-3, 6-2 from the second court.
Sophomore
Theofanis Kontopoulos picked up the Eagles other win atop NCCU's lineup with a 6-2, 6-4 conquest of senior Lucas Krusinski, who is the reigning MEAC Player of the Week.
Kontopoulos (7-5) and Cucalon (6-6) boast the best singles records for the maroon and gray.
Sophomore
Pablo Juez Torres had NCCU's next best chance at a team point in a narrow 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 loss to freshman No. 6 Serhii Kharchev. The Bears won the other three singles matches in straight sets to claim the team victory.
MSU prevailed on the end courts of doubles to secure the opening point.
Cucalon partnered with junior
Sebastian Bromley for a 6-3 doubles win for the hosts. The Eagle duo has won five straight matches together to level their season record at 5-5.
NCCU next hosts the University of Delaware on Thursday at 11 a.m.
