NCCU Eagles Subdue Rival North Carolina A&T

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University finished the regular season with a momentum-building win over North Carolina A&T as the Eagles recorded a 70-59 win to close the 2017-18 regular season on Thursday, March 1 at McDougald-McLendon Arena.

NCCU (15-15, 9-7 MEAC) opened the game with a 7-2 run, but NC A&T (18-13, 11-5 MEAC) found its footing and was able to pull ahead and lead for a majority of the half, as the Aggies took a one-point, 27-26 lead at the break.  Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) was a workhorse for the Eagles in the first half as he cashed in with a game-leading 11 points and seven rebounds.

The second half belonged to NCCU as the Eagles ripped off an 11-0 run that proved to be the difference-maker, giving the home team a 44-33 advantage at the 12:39 mark.  During that scoring avalanche, John Guerra (Cary, N.C.) splashed in seven of his 10 points with a pair of threes including one that led to a four-point play.

Davis put in another 10 points after the break to get a game-high 21 points for the Eagles, and Pablo Rivas (Colón, Panama) pulled down a game-high 12 boards with nine points as he came close to a double-double.  Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) also achieved a game-high mark with seven assists with his seven points, and C.J. Wiggins (Richmond, Va.) was the third Eagle to reach double-digits with 10 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the floor with a trey included.

Femi Olujobi (Long Island, N.Y.) notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Aggies, and Davaris McGowens (Taylors, S.C.) followed with 14 points and seven boards.

NCCU will be seeded sixth for the 2018 MEAC Tournament and will be matched up with Coppin State on Tuesday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
