CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Carolina Central University freshman
Gordon Lewis beat out 79 runners to win the men's 400-meter dash at the Charlotte 49er Classic, opening the outdoor track & field season on March 15-17.
A native of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Lewis posted the fastest time of 47.77 seconds in one lap around the track, beating out other top finishers from Clemson, Appalachian State, Charlotte and Pittsburgh. Teammate
Jazire Notice placed 10th in the 400m race with a time of 48.59.
Lewis and Notice also teamed up with
Da'Mon Ingram and
Deontae Williams to place fifth in the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:14.06.
NCCU freshman
Marvin Jones leaped 2.00 meters to place fifth in the men's high jump, while junior
Mykol Branch used a win in the decathlon high jump (1.93m) to finish seventh place overall in the men's decathlon with 5,024 points.
NCCU freshman
Bhrandi Crenshaw posted a distance of 12.18m to place third in the women's triple jump, while also finishing 21st in the long jump (5.44m).
In a field of 83 sprinters, NCCU senior
Akia Morris achieved a fifth-place performance with a time of 11.89 seconds.
The NCCU women's 4x400m relay squad of

Tyresha Alexander,
Bethany White and
Lovasia Thomas placed eighth with a time of 3:51.65.
In the women's heptathlon, junior
Star Satterwhite placed fifth (3,877 points) and junior
Nateja Hale seventh (3,779 points), aided by a 1-2 finish in the heptathlon 100m hurdles.
