DAYTON, OHIO – North Carolina Central University was held without a single three-point field goal for the first time since the 2011-12 season and fell, 64-46 to Texas Southern on Wednesday, March 14 at UD Arena during the First Four of the 2018 NCAA Division-I Men's Basketball Tournament.
The last time NCCU (19-15) did not have a made three-pointer was against Southern on Nov. 15, 2012 during the Global Sports Showcase where the Eagles went 0-4, but won 59-55. This breaks a streak of 194 consecutive games with a made three-pointer.
The Eagles jumped out to a lead by winning the tip and making the first few buckets, but TSU (16-19) rallied to take an advantage at 8-6 at the 15:35 mark in the first half, and held the lead for the rest of the game.
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) powered NCCU in the first half with 16 points and seven points in the first 20 minutes, but Damontrae Jefferson (Milwaukee, Wis.) matched him step-for-step with 17 points for the Tigers at the intermission.
TSU was able to pull away from the Eagles in the second half when NCCU suffered a shooting slump that lasted nine minutes.
Davis finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the year, and
Pablo Rivas (Colón, Panama) ripped down a game-high 12 boards with seven points.
Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) dished out a game-high six assists with six points as well for the Eagles.
Jefferson finished with a game-high 25 points, and Donte Clark (Charlotte, N.C.) contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. Trayvon Reed (Mobile, Ala.) filled the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds and six blocks for TSU.
