DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – North Carolina Central University ran into a red-hot Bethune-Cookman team on Monday, Feb. 10 as the Eagles fell 99-81 inside Moore Gym.
BCU (14-12, 8-3 MEAC) was off to a blistering pace early in the contest and started the game shooting 7-for-10 from the perimeter to lead NCCU (12-13, 6-5 MEAC) by as many as 24 on the way to a 55-31 score at the midway point.
Jeffrey Altidort (Coral Springs, Fla.) was the catalyst for the Wildcats in the first 20 minutes as he knocked down his first three treys, and turned in 15 points at the intermission.
Raasean Davis (Chicago, Ill.) did his part for the Eagles as well as he was 5-for-5 from the floor with a team-high 11 points and four rebounds at the half.
NCCU outscored BCU 50-44 in the second half, but was unable to surmount the first-half deficit on the way to a 99-81 final score.
The Eagles collected three double-doubles, headlined by
Jordan Perkins (Greensboro, N.C.) who tied career highs and got his first career double-double with 17 points and 10 assists. Davis reached a career-high as well with 26 points and 11 rebounds, and was 8-for-8 from the floor before finishing 12-for-15.
Pablo Rivas (Colón, Panama) was the third Eagle with a double-double with 21 points and 10 boards with three blocks.
BCU was led by Brandon Tabb (Hampton, Va.) who registered a game-high 25 points and four steals, and Isaiah Bailey (Compton, Calif.) had a complete game with 22 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Shawntrez Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) was strong inside with 18 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Wildcats, and Soufiyane Diakite (Bronx, N.Y.) was the fourth BCU player in double-digits with 16 points and seven caroms.
There were a total of 96 points scored in the paint, with the Eagles getting the lion's share, 50-46.
NCCU will return home this Saturday, Feb. 17 to host Maryland Eastern Shore inside McDougald-McLendon Arena before the Eagles return to primetime on ESPNU at home against Howard on Monday, Feb. 19.
