WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University opened the indoor track & field season by earning 12 top-3 finishes, capturing four event victories and breaking two meet records at the JDL Early Bird Duals on Sunday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Sophomore
Bhrandi Crenshaw paced the Eagles with two top-3 performances. The Alexandria, Virginia, native won the women's triple jump with a meet record distance of 12.62 meters, and placed third in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters.
NCCU freshman
Olivia Andrews broke the meet record in the women's 400-meter dash with a winning time of 57.75 seconds.
Other event victories for NCCU were achieved by senior
Nateja Hale in the women's 60m hurdles (9.14), and freshman
Colby Gibson in the men's long jump (7.01m).
Sophomore
Taelor Ferguson and junior
Deja Stevenson joined Crenshaw for a 1-2-3 sweep in the women's triple jump, as Ferguson placed second (11.63m) and Stevenson third (11.30m). Sophomore
Kenydi McWilliams finished as the runner-up to teammate Hale in the women's 60m hurdles (9.19), while junior
Omega Smalls and sophomore
Marvin Jones posted second and third place leaps of 2.05m, respectively.
The NCCU men's and women's 4x400m relays squads each finished in second place, with the women at 3:56.37 and the men at 3:25.96.
