NCCU (0-1) made a second-half comeback attempt in its debut at High Point University, but ultimately lost 80-69. Five Eagles scored in double figures with junior Paulina Afriyie (14 points, 12 rebounds) and freshman Kiyana Brown (10 points, 10 rebounds) both notching double-doubles. NC Central outrebounded its first opponent by seven and will look to continue that trend. Junior transfer Shontai Totten chipped in 13 points and three assists in the opener and freshman Dasmine Kasey had a hot hand in her collegiate debut with 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor. However, the Lady Eagles need to shoot better from 3-point distance after only making two treys. Preseason All-MEAC selection Rodneysha Martin did not play against the Panthers due to injury.

Elon (0-1) suffered a 100-69 home loss to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last Tuesday. The two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament champions have won 52 games over the past two seasons and are attempting to return to the NCAA Tournament for a third straight year. Freshman Kayla Liles made a strong debut for the Phoenix with team-high totals of 14 points and three steals against the Tar Heels. Junior Lexi Mercer, who made 24 starts last season, added 12 points. Junior Jada Graves in the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and she bucketed 10 points against UNC. CAA All-Rookie Team honoree and preseason all-conference honoree Saadia Munford did not play last week.
