GAME NOTES: #NCCUMBB Faces Coppin State and Morgan State

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University finishes up a three-game home stand with Coppin State and Morgan State on January 13 and 15 at McDougald-McLendon Arena.  Both games will tip-off at 4:00 p.m.

STARTING FIVE:
1. NCCU is 345-278 all-time against the MEAC.
2. NCCU is on a four-game win streak for the first time since a 13-game run during the 2016-17 season from Jan. 11 to Feb. 25.
3. NCCU played nine games in November, the most since the 2012-13 season where the Eagles played eight.
4. Coach Moton is 88-27 all-time in regular season MEAC play.
5. NCCU is looking for its fourth regular season MEAC title in the last five seasons.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
Coppin State is coming off its first win of the year, a 79-78 double-overtime thriller over Florida A&M.  Chad Andrews-Fulton helped rally the Eagles with a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds.  Lamar Morgan leads CSU with 10.7 points and 4.9 boards per game.
 
SERIES: NCCU leads, 9-4.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
Like NCCU, Morgan State is undefeated so far in MEAC play with a 3-0 mark, all at home.  Last time out, the Bears survived Savannah State, 89-88 after a 33-point output from Tiwian Kendley.  MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Phillip Carr contributed a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds.  Through 16 games, Carr is averaging 15.3 points and 9.3 caroms per outing.
 
SERIES: NCCU leads, 50-40.
 
COMING UP ACES
NCCU currently leads the MEAC in seven categories after a strong showing during the non-conference schedule.  The Eagles are tops in the league in scoring margin (+4.1), points allowed per game (69.6), field goal percentage (48.3), three-point percentage (36.7), rebounding margin (+4.4), rebounds allowed per game (31.9), and assists per game (15.3)
 
ROOKIE RANKING
Freshmen Reggie Gardner, Jr. and Jordan Perkins have found their way into the starting lineup, and are the first freshmen to start for the Eagles since C.J. Wiggins during the 2015-16 season.  Gardner and Perkins are both statistically ranked within the MEAC, as well.  Gardner is top-20 in scoring with an average of 11.4 points per game and is a volume shooter from the perimeter, ranking sixth in threes per game with 2.3.  Perkins has taken on his role as a point guard and is fifth in the league in assists with 4.4 per outing and is seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio with a positive 1.8.
