CARY, N.C. – An unearned run proved costly for host North Carolina Central University as visiting North Carolina A&T State University secured a 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division victory in the three-game series finale Sunday afternoon at Thomas Brooks Park.
The win in the rubber game will keep the Aggies ahead of the Lady Eagles in the league standings heading into postseason play. North Carolina A&T (16-28-1 Overall, 8-7 MEAC) will be a third seed in the MEAC Softball Championship while NCCU (11-28, 6-8) will be a fourth seed.
A pair of NCCU errors in the top of the first allowed the Aggies to take the lead from the onset. Sophomore Zadia Waddell started the contest with a bunt single and eventually scored on the Lady Eagles' second miscue of the frame.

Lauren Sitterson provided NCCU leadoff baserunners in the third and fourth innings, respectively, but NCAT sophomore starter Mohagony Headen wiggled out of both jams by retiring the next three batters each time.
Headen (7-15) had to fight her way out of one more situation, a two-out rally by the Lady Eagles in the sixth, to complete her shutout. Sitterson started that rally with a walk and then she moved into scoring position on a single to left by senior pitcher
Dominique Wilson. Headen finished with a half dozen strikeouts.
Wilson did not allow an earned run against the Aggies for a second straight day, but was the hard-luck loser in her complete-game performance. Wilson (8-15) only had one K.
NCCU outhit N.C. A&T, 4-3, but three total errors and four walks put more pressure on the Lady Eagles' defense.
The MEAC will announce the full league tournament seeding and first round pairings after all regular season games have been played next week. The MEAC Softball Championship will start on Thursday, May 11 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex near Daytona Beach, Florida.
