TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior
Lauren Sitterson had the only hit for the North Carolina Central University softball team in a 7-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division loss at Florida A&M University Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Tahlie Snider hurled the one-hit gem as the Rattlers won all three games of the first MEAC series for both squads. Snider (3-2) fanned 10 Lady Eagles and retired the first 14 batters she faced.
Sitterson broke up the perfect game with a clean double into the left-center gap with two outs in the top of the fifth. Freshman
Ava Dolan followed with a walk to account for NCCU's other base runner. Snider recovered and retired her next seven batters faced to complete her first shutout of the season.
FAMU – the three-time defending MEAC champions – scored in four different innings.
Senior third baseman Amber Fullwood led the Rattlers with three hits, including a long solo home run to left field in the fourth. Freshman shortstop Jamesia Stoudemire hit the first homer of the series in the third, pounding a leadoff blast off the left field foul pole.
The Lady Eagles used all three of their pitchers, with senior starter
Jennifer Allison (0-5) suffering the loss with two runs allowed in the first.
FAMU (8-24-1 Overall, 3-0 MEAC) scored its seven runs on just five hits as six walks, four wild pitches and a sacrifice fly aided in the Rattlers' run production.
NCCU (5-20, 0-3) returns home to host Drexel University in a non-conference doubleheader at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, North Carolina, on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m.
