LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior outfielder
Danyelle Noland registered a pair of singles in her only two at bats to highlight play for the visiting North Carolina Central University softball team in a 11-1 loss to Liberty University on Saturday afternoon.
The Flames took advantage of seven Eagle errors to score six unearned runs in the run-rule victory that finished after five innings. Liberty leveled its overall record to 12-12 while NCCU slipped to 3-15.
Liberty jumped ahead quickly with six runs in the first.
Sophomore Sarah Robertson ripped three doubles, including a couple into the left field gap that scored a pair of Flame runs in both the first and fourth. Junior Tori Zavodny matched Robertson by scoring three times.
The Eagles did collect six hits, including their only two extra-base hits in the second to account for NCCU's lone run. Senior catcher
Kim Mobley tagged a triple to right field and scored on a double to left by sophomore outfielder
Aleyah Evans.
Sophomore Chase Cassady went the distance to earn the win for the Flames. Cassady (3-5) totaled 10 of her 15 outs via strikeout.
NCCU returns home to host Norfolk State University in a doubleheader at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m.
