DURHAM, N.C. – Senior catcher
Kim Mobley belted three of North Carolina Central University's 10 hits in a pair of shutout losses at the Campbell University Invitational on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles lost 3-0 in the first game to University of Maryland Eastern Shore before falling 8-0 to the host Camels in six innings.
NCCU (1-3 Overall) will next play a doubleheader at Elon University on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Noon.
GAME ONE: Maryland Eastern Shore 3, N.C. Central 0
Mobley and senior first baseman
Brianna Hampton each collected a pair of hits to pace the Lady Eagles.
NCCU had runners in scoring position in four different innings, but were unable to drive in any runs.
A one-out double by Mobley in the fourth and a leadoff double by Hampton in the fifth provided the Lady Eagles with their best chances at scoring.
Freshman Erin Hallman (1-2) earned her first collegiate win for the Hawks with the complete-game shutout. Hallman scattered five hits over seven innings of work and did not issue a walk.
Maryland Eastern Shore (1-2 Overall) plated its first run in the third innings without the benefit of a hit and solo home runs by sophomore Kiana Peterson in the fifth and junior Samantha Casarez in the sixth was more than enough run support for Hallman.
NCCU senior starter
Dominique Wilson (1-2) allowed two earned runs over seven innings and fanned six Hawks. She also had the fifth and final hit for the Lady Eagles with a single in the seventh.
GAME TWO: Campbell 8, N.C. Central (6 Innings)
The Camels hit four extra base hits and turned three double plays on defense to keep NCCU off the scoreboard for a second straight game.
Six different Campbell players tallied hits. Sophomore Rachel McCollum highlighted the Camels scoring with her third home run in three games, a two-run blast in the fourth. Freshman Tori Jo Brown added a pair of run-producing singles.
The Lady Eagles looked to jump out early with sophomores
Aleyah Evans and
Miriam Duen starting the game with consecutive base hits. However, the hosts turned the first of their three double plays to end the threat.
Duen had a pair of infield hits to pace the visitors. Junior starter
Lauren Sitterson (0-1) went the distance for NCCU and three of her eight runs allowed were unearned due to three errors.
Campbell (3-0) remained undefeated on the season with freshman lefty Holly Brooks (1-0) also securing her first collegiate win with five innings of scoreless action. Brooks posted four K's and did not give up a walk.
