DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football junior
Davanta Reynolds has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2017 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
The defensive back had a takeaway in three consecutive wins for the Eagles, including two for touchdowns, and totaled 16 tackles over that span.
Reynolds came up with a 15-yard interception and led NCCU with seven takedowns to start the streak in a 41-0 shutout win against Shaw on Sept. 9.
The Tucker, Georgia, product saved his biggest two plays for a couple of televised Thursday night wins on ESPNU. In a 33-28 home triumph over South Carolina State University, Reynolds stopped an early drive by the Bulldogs when he returned a fumble 85 yards for a touchdown. The following week, he once again put points on the board after he registered an impressive 31-yard pick-six in a 21-14 road win at Florida A&M University.
Reynolds added five tackles against S.C. State and four more versus FAMU to average 5.3 takedowns on the month.
The psychology major is coming off a 3.14 grade point average (GPA) in the spring 2017 semester. Reynolds has aspirations to play professional football and is pursuing grad school after NCCU, possibly in sports psychology or child development.
