DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team will entertain Winthrop University in its middle match of a three-tilt homestand on Friday evening at 7 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU will be providing pay-per-view video ($7.95) of the match along with free audio and live stats. NCCU Sports Network broadcaster Mike Wood will be on air with the play-by-play. Fans can follow NCCU volleyball all season by visiting

N.C. Central Volleyball
The NCCU Lady Eagles are returning to action 10 days since their last match. NCCU (1-6) suffered a straight-set loss that day in its home opener to Elon University on Sept. 13.
Junior setter
Paige Phillips is coming off her first double-double of the season (sixth of her career) and ranks fifth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with 6.68 assists per set.
Sophomore libero
Bree Simmons also ranks fifth in the MEAC in her specialty position with 3.73 digs per set. Simmons leads the maroon and gray with 0.27 aces per set.
The Lady Eagles are hitting .088 on the season, while letting opponents fire at a rate of .248.
Seniors
Casey Curran and
Kelsey Murphy are both averaging over two points per set. Curran is the teams' leader with 2.32 kills per set and is second on the squad with 2.23 digs per set. Murphy is averaging 1.82 kills and 1.59 digs per set.
The middle blocker duo of
Whitney White and
Jazmine Daye have been productive to start their sophomore campaign. White is providing 1.55 kills and a team-high 0.68 blocks per set. Daye follows closely behind with 1.36 kills and 0.67 blocks per set.
NCCU is 0-6 against Winthrop in the programs DI era (since 2007).
Winthrop Volleyball
The Winthrop Eagles were swept by Gardner-Webb University on Tuesday to dip below .500 on the season. Winthrop (7-8) did sweep NCCU in a pair of 3-0 wins last season.
Sophomore Lourdes Rosario – a Big South All-Freshman selection last year – got off to a hot start averaging 3.81 kills per set in the Eagles first seven matches, but has missed the teams' last eight matches.
Winthrop has a balanced attack with five other players averaging nearly two points or more per set, including junior Keaupono Fey (2.77 kills), senior Brianna Gray (2.16 kills, 0.91 blocks), freshman Sydney Gunter (2.16 kills, 0.52 blocks), freshman Sammi-Jo Ah-Hong (1.95 kills) and senior Emma Weakland (1.67 kills, 0.48 blocks).
Freshman setter Siani Yamaguchi orchestrates the Eagles offense that is hitting .180 on the season with 7.22 assists per set. Sophomore Carlie Skelton tops Winthrop on the back row with 3.84 digs per set. Junior defender Mallary McFadden ranks eighth nationally with 26 aces in 15 matches (0.47 aces/set).
