DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University women's tennis senior
Aissa Muamba has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for April 2016 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
A native of Laval, Canada, Muamba tallied a perfect 7-0 singles record during the month of April. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, six of her seven victories were in convincing straight-set fashion, including a pair of match wins at the MEAC Championship.
Muamba finished her senior season with a 12-5 singles record and was voted to the All-MEAC First Team. She broke the NCCU record for career singles wins with 59, boasting a career singles record of 59-21 for a winning percentage of .738, which ranks second in program history.
During her remarkable NCCU career from 2012-16, Muamba earned All-MEAC honors all four seasons (First Team All-MEAC in 2013 and 2016; Second Team All-MEAC in 2014 and 2015) and was named the 2013 MEAC Rookie of the Year after posting a 19-3 singles record to break the NCCU single-season record for match victories.
Muamba graduated from NCCU with a 3.64 overall grade point average as a biology major, and is planning to attend medical school.
