DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Joshua McClam's finish in the long jump highlighted 20 top-10 performances by North Carolina Central University's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams at the Duke University Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.
 
A native of Holly Springs, North Carolina, McClam placed second overall, but had the top distance of any collegiate competitor in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.28 meters. He also placed 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.87 seconds.
 
McClam also joined teammates Deontae Williams, Jonathan Williams and Isaac Roberts to finish third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.89, which is one of eight events that resulted with top marks of the outdoor season for NCCU.
 
Other NCCU student-athletes to post the best standards for the program this season were Bethany White in the women's 200m dash (24.51, 8th), Kiana Seabrook in the women's 400m dash (55.90, 9th), Jonathan Williams in the men's 200m dash (21.70, 9th), Deandre James in the men's 800m run (1:52.23, 10th) and Mykol Branch in the men's high jump (2.04m, 7th).
 
Three of NCCU's four relay squads were also at their season's best this weekend. The women's 4x400m relay (Christa Landy, Kiana Seabrook, Lovasia Thomas, Jaleesa Smoot) placed second in 3:45.64, the men's 4x100m relay (Joshua McClam, Deontae Williams, Jonathan Williams, Isaac Roberts) finished third in 40.89 and the men's 4x400m relay (Ronnie Lovick, Kevin Vincent, Deandre James, Carlton Edwards, Jr.) placed fifth in 3:17.11.
 
The fourth NCCU relay did not record a season-best time, but did record a solid performance, placing second in the women's 4x100m relay (Markiara Staten, Bethany White, Christa Landy, Santese Pryor) with a time of 46.33.
 
In the women's 100m dash, NCCU boasted two of the top six sprinters. Markiara Staten finished third with a time of 11.98, while Bethany White placed sixth in 12.21.
 
MEAC indoor triple jump champion Zoe Ellis placed third in this weekend's triple jump with a distance of 12.06m, less than five inches behind jumpers from Duke and East Carolina.
 
Other top-10 performers for NCCU were Jonathan Williams (5th, 10.75) and Deontae Williams (8th, 10.85) in the men's 100m dash, James Johnson (5th, 54.78) and Carlton Edwards, Jr. (9th, 55.73) in the men's 400m hurdles, Kiana Seabrook in the women's long jump (8th, 5.43m), Jaszmine Bowman in the women's shot put (8th, 13.08m) and Kevin Vincent (10th, 49.13) in the men's 400m dash.
 
Up next, NCCU travels north for the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday-Saturday, April 28-30.
