GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Miaysha Bryant, junior Jaszmine Bowman and junior Christian Obame celebrated event victories among North Carolina Central University's 16 top-five finishes, including seven runner-up performances, at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday.
 
Bryant won the women's 200-meter dash for the second straight week, this time clocking in at 25.37 seconds to top a field of 32 sprinters.
 
Bowman captured her first career outdoor win in the shot put with a toss of 11.80 meters on her first attempt of the day. During her three-year NCCU career, she has won two indoor shot put events and an outdoor victory in the discus throw.
 
Obame won the men's discus throw with a distance of 42.72 meters, his best effort of the outdoor season.
 
Finishing just out of first place, runner-up performances were posted by Zoe Ellis in both the women's long jump (5.30m) and triple jump (11.60m), Deontae Williams in the men's 200m dash with a career-best time of 21.81, Deandre James in the men's 800m run (1:57.18), Armond Shaw in the men's high jump (1.95m), the women's 4x100m relay squad of Markiara Staten, Bethany White, Christa Landy and Santese Pryor (47.16), and the men's 4x100m relay foursome of Joshua McClam, Deontae Williams, Jonathan Williams and Isaac Roberts (41.82).
 
Other top-five performers for NCCU were Staten in the women's 100m dash (3rd, 11.98), Landy in the women's 200m dash (4th, 25.77), Jaleesa Smoot in the women's 400m dash (3rd, 59.60), Carlton Edwards, Jr. in the men's 400m hurdles (4th, 56.06), Timothy Edelen in the men's javelin throw (4th, 47.29m), and Obame in the men's shot put (5th, 13.74m).
 
NCCU returns to competition on April 15-16 at the Hampton University Relays.
