SERIES: Morgan State leads the all-time series, 8-4, after holding off NCCU, 66-55, on Feb. 20, 2016 in Baltimore, Maryland. The game was a one-possession affair midway through the fourth quarter before MSU outscored the Lady Eagles 13-4 down the stretch to end a two-game skid against NCCU.
NCCU (5-22, 3-13) enters the 2016 MEAC Tournament as the 12th seed and is coming off a 60-48 road loss at North Carolina A&T on Thursday. The Lady Eagles are 0-4 all time in the MEAC Tourney. Senior
Tisha Dixon and junior
Morgan Jones continue to pace NCCU in scoring with 10.6 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Dixon also leads the Lady Eagles with 7.9 rebounds per game and Jones with 1.7 steals per game. Freshmen
Chantal Thomas and
Dominique Adams are both averaging 5.1 points per contest. Senior
Kristin Askew (7.1 ppg) has missed NCCU's last five games due to injury. NCCU had won two straight against Morgan State before losing to the Lady Bears, 66-55, just 16 days ago in Baltimore. Dixon had a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) in that game.
MSU (12-16, 10-6) moved into sole possession of first place in the MEAC after defeating NCCU two weeks ago but the Lady Bears have lost their final three games since then to drop to the fifth seed. Sophomore guard Braennan Farrar was named All-MEAC Second Team last week after leading Morgan State with 14.0 points (6th MEAC), 3.2 assists (4th) and 2.1 steals per game (5th). A quartet of sophomores account for most of the Lady Bears, including Farrar, Tykyrah Williams (10.4 ppg), Lexus Spears (8.3) and Zuri White (5.1). White (7.3 rpg) and Spears (6.6) top MSU's rebounders. Farrar tallied 15 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals in the first clash.
