Gabriel Cucalon both won their singles matches in a 5-2 non-conference dual loss to South Dakota State University on Saturday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The Jackrabbits won their seventh consecutive match to move to 7-4 on the season. The Eagles remained winless at 0-7.
Kilumets won atop NCCU's lineup with matching 6-4 set triumphs and Cucalon prevailed one court over by a 7-6 (4), 6-2 margin. Cucalon moved over .500 at 4-3 while Kilumets has also won two in a row to improve his record to 2-5.
Freshman
Davide Callegari led his third singles match after a 6-4 win in the opening set but freshman counterpart Emerson Styles leveled the showdown with a tiebreaker win in the second set, 7-6 (5), before completing the comeback with a 10-8 superset win.
SDSU senior Mateus Moreira coasted at No. 4 singles to clinch the match after the Jackrabbits were handed a walkover win at No. 5 due to injury and a forfeit win at No. 6.
Cucalon and Callegari netted a 6-2 win in the marquee doubles match. The rookie duo has won two straight matches paired together.
Moreira and Styles secured the first team point for SDSU with a 6-3 win. The Eagles forfeited the third doubles match with five players.
NCCU will play its third home match of the weekend against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Howard University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
