NCCU Torches the Net in Win Over Morgan State

BALTIMORE, Md. - North Carolina Central University took advantage of a cold-shooting Morgan State University squad, and shot over 50 percent on its way to a 73-59 victory at Hill Field House on Saturday, Feb. 20.

With the win, NCCU (11-16, 6-7 MEAC) finishes its eight-day stretch with a 3-1 record.

The Eagles got a hot start as they went up 7-0 over MSU (5-20, 3-9 MEAC) after the Bears failed to register a field goal in the first eight minutes of play.

Dante Holmes (Baltimore, Md.) was red-hot in the first 20 minutes, firing in 12 points with six rebounds to help spur the Eagles to a 41-25 lead at the intermission. NCCU managed to create a gulf of 19 points at one juncture of the first half before carrying a 16-point cushion to the locker room.

Jeremiah Ingram (Detroit, Mich.) recorded six points and six rebounds in the first act on his way to his fourth career double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

The second period went in a different direction than the first as MSU was able to draw within nine points at one point down the stretch, but the Eagles kept firing on the offensive end to pull out the win.

Cedric Blossom (Columbia, Md.) was big in helping the Bears back into the contest with 12 points after the break on his way to a game-high 20.

Holmes had his four-game streak of scoring more than 20 points snapped, as he finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Two other Eagles went into double-digits as well, Patrick Cole (Newark, N.J.) recorded 14 points, and Kyle Benton notched 10 points and seven caroms.

NCCU will have a week to rest before visiting Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Feb. 27.
