Football Senior Quarterback Helps Lead Eagles to MEAC Title, Earns Degree


DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football senior quarterback Malcolm Bell has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2016 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
 
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Bell averaged 300.3 yards of total offense per game in three contests – all victories - during the 11th month. He averaged 210.0 yards passing per game and 7.7 yards per rush, accounting for eight total touchdowns.
 
The 6-1, 190-pound quarterback threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns in a win at Delaware State to open November play. He then repeated 223 passing yards with a touchdown along with 122 yards and two scores rushing to beat Howard on Nov. 12. Bell closed the month by passing for 184 yards with a touchdown and rushing for a career-best 131 yards with two trips to the end zone in a decisive victory over No. 9 North Carolina A&T to win the MEAC Championship for the third year in-a-row and earn a trip to the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl.
 
At the conclusion of the regular season, Bell was voted as the top quarterback in the conference with a selection to the All-MEAC First Team, and was chosen as a Finalist for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award.
 
Bell graduated from NCCU on Dec. 10 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, which he plans to put to work in federal law enforcement.
