DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University football senior
Jamaal Symmonett has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for October 2016 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Symmonett helped pave the way for the Eagles to amass an average of 352.3 yards of total offense per game in four victories during the 10th month.
The 6-3, 300-pound right tackle was selected as the MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Week on Oct. 3 for his performance during NCCU's 31-14 win over Bethune-Cookman. He earned a grade of 98 percent on his blocking assignments, including five pancake blocks, with no sacks allowed and no penalties, as the Eagles amassed 489 yards of total offense versus the Wildcats.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Symmonett was voted to the All-MEAC Second Team after posting the team's second-highest offensive line grade of 89 percent on blocking assignments with 27 pancake blocks.
Symmonett has accumulated an overall grade point average of 3.25 and is on track to graduate on Dec. 10 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He is planning a career in the finance or business sector.
