NCCU MBB Opens Home Schedule Against Jackson State

DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central University hosts Jackson State University for its first game inside McDougald-McLendon Arena for the 2016-17 season.  The Eagles have had seven consecutive winning seasons at home, and they look to get off to a strong start for an eighth straight against the Tigers.

STARTING FIVE:
1. NCCU is 8-1 in the Division I era in home openers, and has won seven straight.
2. NCCU is 3-2 against the SWAC.
3. Three games is the second-longest road swing to begin a season, behind NCCU's six game trip in the 2008-09 season.
4. NCCU's non-conference schedule puts the Eagles on the road nine times out of 14 games.
5. NCCU went 5-9 in non-conference play last year.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
Jackson State made it to the final of the SWAC Basketball Tournament in the 2015-16 season before falling to champion Southern, a common opponent for the Eagles last season.  This year the Tigers are currently 1-1 after a 84-71 loss to Southeastern Louisiana.  The Tigers are led by sophomore guard Edric Dennis' 18.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds.  Dennis contributed 16 points in the last contest, and Yettra Specks led with 19 points.
