STARTING FIVE:
1. NCCU is looking for its first season-opening win since Nov. 12, 2010 at Marshall.
2. NCCU will face Ohio State for the first time.
3. Three games is the second-longest road swing to begin a season, behind NCCU's six game trip in the 2008-09 season.
4. NCCU's non-conference schedule puts the Eagles on the road nine times out of 14 games.
5. NCCU went 5-9 in non-conference play last year.
 
SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD:
Marshall is led by returning starters and Preseason All-CUSA selections. Ryan Taylor (14.2 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Jon Elmore (15.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg) who helped the Herd to the top spot in the league in scoring offense at 86.0 points per game.  Marshall went 17-16 last season and 12-6 in conference play, and the team was voted fourth in the preseason poll.

SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES:
Ohio State returns forward Marc Loving for his senior year after leading the Buckeyes with 14.0 points per game along with 5.3 boards per night.  The Buckeyes went 21-14 overall and 11-7 within their league, and finished seventh.
