Zoe Ellis and
Joshua McClam topped North Carolina Central University with an event victory and a top-three finish each during Saturday's Joe Hilton Indoor Track & Field Invitational in Chapel Hill, hosted by the University of North Carolina.
Overall, NCCU notched 18 top-four performances in the first meet of the new year, including 10 by the Eagles and eight by the Lady Eagles.
Ellis, a junior out of Charlotte, North Carolina, won the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.53 meters (37' 10.00") and placed third in the long jump (5.37m).
McClam, a senior from Holly Springs, North Carolina, posted a distance on 7.26 meters for a victory in the men's long jump, while also finishing as the 60-meter dash runner-up with a time of 6.93 seconds in the finals after a 6.90 mark in the preliminaries.
Sherhae Holloway contributed two second-place performances in the high jump (1.62m) and the triple jump (11.28m).
Other top efforts by the NCCU women came from
Natalyia Dunlap (3rd, 10.92m) in the triple jump,
Markiara Staten (4th, 7.74) in the 60m dash,
Jaleesa Smoot (4th, 58.32) in the 400m dash, and the 4x400m relay (2nd, 4:00.26).
Mykol Branch recorded the same height of 2.01 meters as the winner of the high jump, but settled for second place because it took him an extra attempt to clear the bar.
The NCCU men added top-four standards by
Kevin Vincent (2nd, 50.44) in the 400m dash,
Jedrek Higgins (3rd, 2:02.82) in the 800m dash,
Ronnie Lovick (4th, 51.38) in the 400m dash,
Deontae Williams (4th, 7.07) in the 60m dash,
Christian Obame (4th, 13.82m) in the shot put, the 4x400m relay (2nd, 3:29.45), and the distance medley (2nd, 10:52.08).
NCCU men's and women's indoor track & field teams return to action on Jan. 15 at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
