#NCCUWBB Eyes Fourth Straight Win over S.C. State Saturday


DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team will be trying to stay undefeated in 2016 when the Lady Eagles return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play at South Carolina State University on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m.   
 
Fans who cannot attend the game in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center, can listen to the MEAC showdown on the NCCU Sports Network, with Jonathan Duren on the air for the play-by-play. There will be no video or live stats available.

NCCU (2-10, 1-1) ended a five-game losing streak with an impressive 66-61 home win over Furman on Monday. The Lady Eagles notched their best field goal percentage (40.3%) and committed their fewest turnovers (13) en route to a season-high 66 points. Senior Tisha Dixon and junior Morgan Jones lead NCCU with 11.1 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. Senior sharpshooter Kristin Askew, who is second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (41.7%), has scored in double digits in three consecutive games and freshman Dominique Adams is coming off a season-best, 11-point performance. The Lady Eagles are only one of two MEAC women's hoops teams that have a positive rebounding margin on the season. Dixon crashes the glass for a team-best 7.5 rebounds per game.
 
S.C. STATE (5-7, 1-1) is coming off a 75-52 home win against DII Southern Wesleyan University. The Lady Bulldogs are 3-0 at home and boast a stingy defense that is only allowing 58.2 points per game (2nd in the league) and making 8.8 steals per game (ranked 3rd). Sophomore Brittany Drumgoole paces SCSU with 10.8 points, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game. SCSU's next seven top scorers all average within three points of each other. Senior Jasmine Coleman leads the Lady Bulldogs with 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per contest. SCSU was picked eighth in the MEAC preseason coaches' poll, four spots ahead of NCCU at No. 12.
