Deontae Williams and junior
Deandre James each recorded event victories to lead 12 top-5 performances by North Carolina Central University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams at the UNCG Spartan Team Challenge on Sunday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Williams won the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02 seconds, and placed fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.88. He then joined teammates
Victor Dunbar,
Brett Boykin-Roach and
Isaac Roberts to finish fifth in the 4x400m relay in 3:29.55.
James ran to victory in the men's 800m race with a time of 1:57.50.
Runner-up efforts were posted by
Markiara Staten in the women's 60m dash (7.78),
Jaleesa Smoot in the women's 400m run (59.45) and
Zoe Ellis in the women's triple jump (11.80m/38'8.75").
Among the other top-5 finishes by NCCU were
Jedrek Higgins in the men's 800m run (4th – 2:01.10), the women's 4x400m relay squad (4th – 4:01.30),
Joshua McClam in the men's 60m dash (5th – 7.10),
Kiana Seabrook in the women's 400m run (5th – 59.79), and
Jaszmine Bowman in the women's weight throw (5th – 12.99m).
NCCU returns to Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30 for the JDL Hilton Garden Invitational.
