NCCU SOFTBALL HOSTS MONTREAT WEDNESDAY

Lady Eagles are 7-4 at home


DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University will begin a five-game home stand with a non-conference doubleheader against Montreat College on Wednesday with first pitch at Parkwood Athletic Field scheduled for 4 p.m. Admission is free.

North Carolina Central University Softball

The Lady Eagles, who are 7-4 at home, have a chance at moving back over .500 after going 2-4 in the Liberty Softball Classic over the past weekend. NCCU (12-12 Overall) has the best win percentage out of 12 MEAC softball programs.
 
Senior catcher/right fielder Emerie Germ is the reigning MEAC Player of the Week and is batting .479 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 18 runs. NCCU is batting .288 on the season.
 
Other top hitters for the Lady Eagles include junior Casey Hargett (.361/19 R/14 RBI/6 2B), sophomore Dominique Wilson (.319/12 RBI/4 HR), sophomore Jenny Tracy (.288/15 R) and junior Demiree Briones (.280/3 HR).
 
Wilson (4-6, 3.37 ERA, 63 SO) and junior London Booker (8-6, 5.36 ERA, 60 SO) have both pitched over 70 innings for NCCU.
 
NCCU will be playing Montreat for the first time under the leadership of fourth year head coach Theresa Stephens.

The Cavaliers are 6-23 overall and will be playing for a second straight day after splitting a doubleheader at Milligan College on Tuesday.  Three of Montreat's six wins have come against league opposition as part of NAIA's Appalachian Athletic Conference.
 
Melina Wilkinson leads the Cavaliers with a .439 average, six home runs, 31 runs and 13 stolen bases. Dezaree Avallone follows with a .385 average, four home runs and 17 runs while providing a team-best nine doubles and 25 RBI.
 
A trio of arms have shared time in the pitcher's circle for Montreat and they have combined for a 5.99 ERA and a .323 opponent batting average.
