SAVANNAH, Ga. – Trailing by 22 points in the second half, the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team scored 14 unanswered points, but it was not enough as Savannah State University held on for a 65-54 win inside Tiger Arena on Monday night.
After enjoying a 39-26 advantage at halftime, Savannah State increased its cushion to 53-31 with 14:37 left in the game. NCCU scored the next 14 points, capped by a jumper by
Nikki Works to trim the gap to 53-45 with 7:47 remaining.
The Lady Eagles got as close as 57-50 with 2:57 on the clock, but SSU pulled away for an 11-point victory.
Morgan Jones topped NCCU (7-20, 5-10 MEAC) with 15 points.
Khyra Conerly added 12 points and four assists for the Lady Eagles, while
Racquel Davis tallied seven points and 10 rebounds, and Works finished with seven points and nine boards.
Savannah State (17-10, 12-3 MEAC) was led by Jasmine Norman with 21 points, eight rebounds and six steals.
NCCU returns home on Thursday, March 5 to close out the regular season against rival North Carolina A&T at 5:30 p.m.
