DURHAM, N.C. – Senior
Racquel Davis scored a game-high 19 points and flirted with a double-double in her final home game in McDougald-McLendon Gym, but the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team dropped its regular season finale to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) archrival North Carolina A&T State University, 67-46, Thursday night.
NCCU (7-21 Overall; 5-11 MEAC) finished the regular season in a three-way tie for ninth in the league standings and will play in the opening round of the 2015 MEAC Women's Basketball Tournament scheduled for Monday-Saturday, March 9-14. The Lady Eagles will officially find out their first-round opponent when the MEAC releases the tournament bracket.
Davis scored her 19 points on 7 of 12 field goal shooting and 5 of 5 free throw precision. The All-MEAC honoree supplemented her scoring with eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Sophomore
Morgan Jones added nine points and five assists for the Lady Eagles and senior
Khyra Conerly chipped in five points before fouling out.
NC A&T (19-10, 12-4) led from the onset to take a 10-game win streak into the MEAC Tournament. The Lady Aggies captured the third seed and will get an opening round bye.
The visitors shot 45.8% (27 of 59) from the floor and distributed the ball well with 17 assists on 27 made shots. The Lady Aggies defense held the Lady Eagles to just 30.8% (16 of 52) accuracy.
The junior post tandem of Aprill McRae and Eboni Ross led the Lady Aggies with 13 and 10 points, respectively. NC A&T held a 41-32 rebounding advantage with Ross grabbing eight boards and McRae corralling six rebounds.
North Carolina A&T started the contest on a 18-6 run and led by double digits for the final 31 minutes.
