NCCU’S BOOKER, HARGETT AND WILSON ALL EARN MEAC SOFTBALL WEEKLY LAURELS

The Lady Eagles have won five MEAC softball weekly awards over the first half of the season.


NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced its weekly softball award winners for the past two weeks on Monday and North Carolina Central University was represented well earning three of the six top awards.

Juniors Casey Hargett and London Booker represented the Eagles for the week of March 2-8 and sophomore Dominique Wilson garnered NCCU's third weekly award of the month for the week of March 9-15.

Hargett, a right fielder from Greenville, N.C., was named MEAC Player of the Week after registering a .400 batting average (8-of-20), including seven runs scored, four doubles, two RBIs, and a home run against Gardner-Webb, Alabama A&M, Jackson State, Grambling State, and Mississippi Valley State. She went 3-for-4, with two doubles and three runs scored in an 8-7 win over Mississippi Valley State. Hargett, who is batting over .400 on the season and leads the Lady Eagles in doubles and runs scored, had built up a 10-game hit streak during that stretch.

Booker, a right-handed pitcher from Richmond, Va., was selected MEAC Pitcher of the Week after pitched 24.0 innings and recorded a 3-1 record against Gardner-Webb, Jackson State, Grambling State and Mississippi Valley State. She fanned 19 batters, including eight, in a 3-1 win against Jackson State. Booker won three straight decisions in a two-day span during the Tiny Laster Invitational and leads NCCU with five wins.

Wilson, a right-handed hurler from Mooresville, N.C., captured MEAC Pitcher of the Week accolades a week later after notching a 2.80 ERA against Norfolk State, Notre Dame and Elon. She pitched a complete-game, five-hitter, with three strikeouts, in a 1-0 victory over Norfolk State. Wilson's first collegiate shutout helped her garner her second MEAC Pitcher of the Week award of the season. Wilson leads the Lady Eagles with a 3.37 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

NCCU will hosts a pair of doubleheaders for the week of March 16-22 entertaining Marist College on Tuesday and University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Thursday before playing six neutral-site games in the Liberty Classic over the weekend.
