Complete Game Notes (PDF) THE GAME: NCCU closes a three-game home set against Howard, looking for its second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win. The Eagles hold a 40-26 series lead over the Bison, and have won the last six. This is the first meeting between the two teams in Durham since Jan. 21, 2013.
SCOUTING THE BISON:-Howard went 16-16 last season and finished with a 10-6 record within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Bison finished fourth in the conference, and were defeated by Delaware State in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Basketball Championships.
-The Bison feature the leading scorer in Division I basketball, James Daniel III (Hampton, Va.) who is lighting up the scoreboard at a staggering rate of 28.6 points per game. Daniel is also the leading assist man with 3.2 helpers per game, and the Bison are bolstered inside by Solomon Mangham (Atlanta, Ga.) who is pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game.
-Howard had won five straight before being halted by North Carolina A&T 66-63 on Saturday, Dec. 5. Daniel posted a game-high 30 points with five assists and nine steals, followed by James Miller (Clinton, N.C.) with 27 points and seven boards.
-Of note, Daniel scored a career-high 39 points earlier this year, including the game-winner in a 79-77 final against William & Mary on Nov. 28.
SERIES: NCCU currently holds a 40-26 all-time series record against UMES, and have won all six in the Division I era. NCCU last saw Howard in the Big Apple Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y., where the Eagles posted a 61-39 victory at the Barclays Center. The Bison have only traveled to McDougald-McLendon Arena once in the last six meetings, a 71-36 win on Jan. 21, 2013.
NCCU vs. MEAC: Now that NCCU is back and established in the conference that it helped start back in 1970, the Eagles are 318-265 against MEAC opponents all-time.
