Team Results WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University opened the indoor track and field season with five event victories and 15 top-three performances at the UNCG Early Bird meet on Tuesday, Dec. 1 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Individual event winners for NCCU were
Kiana Seabrook (58.71) in the women's 400-meter run,
Deandre James (1:56.45) in the men's 800m run,
Jaszmine Bowman (12.73m) in the women's shot put,
Joshua McClam (6.97m) in the men's long jump, and the women's 4x400m relay squad of
Jaleesa Smoot, Seabrook,
Lovasia Thomas and
Christa Landy (4:03.19).
Other NCCU competitors to place among the top three were
Deontae Williams (2nd, 6.80) in the men's 60m dash, Smoot (2nd, 1:00.05) in the women's 400m run,
Carlton Edwards, Jr. (3rd, 51.13) in the men's 400m run,
Miaysha Bryant (2nd, 25.85) and
Star Satterwhite (3rd, 26.30) in the women's 200m dash,
Christian Obame (2nd, 13.90m) in the men's shot put),
Sherhae Holloway (2nd, 1.45m) in the women's high jump),
Armond Shaw (2nd, 1.95m) and
Mykol Branch (3rd, 1.90m) in the men's high jump, and the men's 4x400m relay foursome of Edwards,
Ronnie Lovick, James and
Kevin Vincent (2nd, 3:24.46).
In dual meet scoring against six other schools, the NCCU men defeated North Carolina A&T 158-141, Furman 196-73, USC Upstate 186-117, UNC Greensboro 189-90 and Savannah State 183-88, while losing the head-to-head match-up with South Carolina State 177-139.
On the women's side, the NCCU Lady Eagles beat Furman 150-19, Savannah State 143-73, South Carolina State 144-123, and UNC Greensboro 150-86, while falling to North Carolina A&T 154-114 and UCS Upstate 142.5-122.5.
The NCCU men's and women's indoor track and field teams return to action on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the JDL College Kickoff Classic in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
